I wrote this essay several weeks ago. In the days since, I’ve had friends show up to help re-situate my life here, in all kinds of ways.

Neighbors moved my stuff, toasted with bubbles, helped watch out for big deliveries while I was on the road…

Friends texted when they were in the area (“dropping by in 20!”), ignoring my protestations that my place was covered in boxes, and we sat on the bare floor and ate Cheetos and talked religion & cultural upbringing, watched sketch comedies…

  • The price hike sparked a protest in Delta State as commercial tricycle operators, also known as ‘keke’ riders, took to the streets of Warri and Effurun metropolis to resist the price hike.

Checks by our correspondents revealed that commuters across the country were either stranded or trekked long distances on Wednesday as fuel queues worsened amid scarcity of the product

  • Our Head-boy was cool headed too. So, when others were "boiling", we have people to add ice and calm the situation. That was how we managed our set and handed over. I remember how it felt too when we no longer matter to junior students, when our power was transferred to the next class - Those who showed no mercy became ashamed and felt empty. I experienced it too. No junior students fear us anymore. We came down from our horses and started relating well again. Our heads were no longer "boiling" - time to tolerate some **** again.

The summary of my point is this; it's expected that, those in power get intoxicated with power and may want to use it abnormally. That's why we say "Absolute power corrupt absolutely". It's the nature of power. Only a few people can tame themselves when in power. It's also expected that, while leaders may sometimes be tempted to use their power excessively, those surrounding them should be able to put sense across to them and force them to apply break for the good of all. That's the work of all the numerous Aides. But, if as an Aide to those in power, you don't see the necessity to caution your leader, then, we are heading for a doom. That's exactly why we now have protesters been charged with treason in a democratic settings. People justify it and they have reasons.

I know Madam Nat is capable of many things but, if I was told she would be so petty chasing "rats and cockroaches" on media as a Senator, I would have sworn it's impossible. We may not be on the same political ideology but, there was no way I would have assented to such accusations against her if it was made 2 - 3 years ago. But, today, our ever pretty Madam Nat who campaign endlessly on "Political reform and social justice" can no longer tolerate the slightest of media opinion contrary to her personality. I wouldn't blame her much, it's the nature of power to intoxicate. But, what about those around her? No one can at least be the Ahithophel of our time and offered sound counsel? Restrain is not weakness. We must not exercise all our rights to be alive. We must not seek redress in every case to be a good leader. Some of the annoying things, we just hiss and move on. It removed nothing and it add nothing.

I have zero tolerance for defamation of character or any falsehood been peddled against leaders. Been in position of leadership doesn't mean every dirt must be thrown at them. But, I also know when a leader is having insomnia looking for every available opportunities to have his "traducer" incarcerated by whichever means necessary. So, even anonymous write-up can now be claim. There were so much venomous article against Gov Ododo and Mr. Ajaka during the Kogi State Guber election from both sides but, none of them file any petition. They shake it off and moves ahead losing no sleep over any. If those we criticized yesterday are better than us, it calls for lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah, season two.

Those who wants to make excuse for the leaders unbecoming attributes towards the citizens will definitely find thousands of that. Satan had an excuses too for what he did. Dictators and murderers have their excuses too. But, one day, we or our loved ones may fall victim of the python when our favourite is out of power and this bitter leaf that is so sweet in our mouths now will suddenly regained its real taste - bitter. I am more convinced that will be another time to wear the cap of sanity and campaign for good governance and tolerance.

Leaders must learn to look away except it's a case of severe harm and defamation

  • Do you know? In the last 48hrs, Bokoharam stormed Yobe State and murdered 127 people? They have been given mass burial.

Meanwhile, I haven't read from the Presidency regarding this ugly incident. It has become our norms in this country. It doesn't matters anymore. NTA Network News didn't report it or even Channels Television except I missed their update.

FG is currently preoccupied with charging protesters with Treason; they are more dangerous than Bokoharam members. Our intelligence agencies couldn't gathered information regarding the attack, they only know about a plan protest
