  • Blood Moon

In the quiet village of Eldermoor, there was a legend of the Blood Moon—a night when the moon turned red, casting an eerie glow over the land. On this night, it was said that the spirits of the restless dead would rise, thirsting for revenge.

One autumn, as villagers prepared for the Blood Moon, strange things began to happen. Animals disappeared, crops wilted overnight, and eerie howls echoed through the hills. The villagers whispered in fear, wondering if this Blood Moon would be different.

When night fell, the moon rose, glowing deep crimson, illuminating the village with an unnatural light. Shadows stretched and danced across the ground, and a thick, cold mist rolled in, carrying the scent of decay. Then, the dead appeared.

They rose silently from their graves, their faces pale and eyes hollow, with a thirst for vengeance that could not be quenched. One by one, they crept through the village, silently entering the homes of those who had wronged them in life. Some villagers saw loved ones they had betrayed; others saw the faces of strangers with burning, accusing eyes.

In his home, the blacksmith Aaron heard soft footsteps and turned to find his long-dead brother, his skin rotting, his eyes glowing red in the moonlight. “You left me to die,” his brother’s hollow voice whispered. Aaron tried to scream, but his brother’s icy grip choked the breath from his lungs.

By morning, the village lay empty, save for a trail of blood-red mist that lingered in the streets. The Blood Moon had claimed its toll, and the restless spirits had returned to their graves, their vengeance satisfied… for now.

  • How to construct a poultry house:

Commercial chicken farming requires a high-level of expertise, understanding and commitment to be successful.

Whilst it’s important to emphasize the need for excellent flock management at all times, something that comes with experience and aptitude, adopting the correct housing techniques and equipment will set a firm foundation for success of your poultry venture.

The following is a guiding checklist for poultry house construction:

"A poultry house should provide the birds with a comfortable environment and protect them from the extremities of the prevailing weather (rain, wind and sunshine).

"It should have adequate space for the flock to be kept in the house. The ideal stocking density is:

    1. Layers: one square metre for 6 birds.

    2. Broilers: One square metre for 11 birds.

"It should be open-sided to allow natural ventilation with an east-west orientation to minimise the amount of sunlight entering the house directly. Its not good for sun rays to strike directly into the poultry house.

"It should be rectangular in shape and have a wall not higher than three feet on the longer side. The widith should be at least 7-9 metres, but for the length you are only limited by your land. Avoid building poultry houses in a square form.

"The wall can be made from stones, iron sheets, timber, silver boards or bricks

"The rest of the side of the wall should have a chicken wire mesh. The wire mesh on the sides of the house should be of a small gauge to prevent entry of wild birds, dogs and rodents. This normal chicken mesh is not long lasting.....within a few months it rusts and gets off the house. its better to use a plastic quoted mesh.

"The roof of the house should have a reflecting surface and pitched with overlaps to ensure that the house is comfortable and well ventilated. There should be enough gap between the birds and the roof to avoid heat stress. The pin of the house should be 8 metres from the ground, and the sides should be 5 metres.

"Concrete floors are the best finishing as they are easier to clean and disinfect. Do not put "nil" after putting concrete on the floor.

"There should be a foot-bath at the entrance of the house for those entering the poultry house to disinfect their foot wear. You know farm boys have a tendency of jumping the foot bath, but if it is wide enough they cannot jump it.

"To reduce the risk of rodents gaining entrance into the poultry house, clear all the vegetation in a radius of 3-5 metres around the pen.

"The feed store should also be separate from the house to reduce risk of attracting rodents.

"It should be constructed in isolated areas to minimise the risk of contamination.

"your poultry house plan must have a tank raised inside the poultry house. Exposing water to sunshine in bad, as it gets warm and birds may reject it, or may facilitate heat stress during the dry seasons.

"The house should be fenced to exclude stray animals and visitors.

"The doors should always be locked.

"On poultry farms, an all-in all-out system is the best management practice as it prevents the build up of disease causing organisms and disease outbreaks. Its always good to have one age group in each house, but not putting different ages in one house!

In case where farmers want to keep flocks of different ages, then each flock must be housed in its own.

    Ventilation:

Ventilation is the circulation of fresh air through the flock house and exhaustion of stale air out of the flock units and its achieved by air passing from one side of the house and exhausting through the opposite side.

Ventilation of poultry houses serves several functions including:

    1.Removing excess heat and moisture.

2.Providing oxygen while removing harmful gases.

3.Reducing dust hence improving the air quality.

You must always allow optimal ventilation to avoid chicks getting suffocated.

  • A rich father, wanting his son to know what it means to be poor, made him spend a day with a peasant family
The boy spent 3 days and 3 nights in the fields.
Back in the city, still in the car, his father asked him:
    - What about your experience?
    - Well - replied the boy....
Have you learned anything? The father insisted
    1. That we have a dog and they have four.
    2. That we have a swimming pool with treated water, which reaches the end of the garden. They have a river, with crystal clear water, fish and other beautiful things.
    3. That we have electric light in our garden but they have the stars and the moon to illuminate them.
    4. That our garden reaches up to the wall. Theirs, to the horizon.
    5. That we buy our own food; they grow it, harvest it and cook it.
    6. That we listen to CDs... They listen to a continuous symphony of parrots, crickets and other animals...
... all this, sometimes accompanied by the song of a neighbor who works the land.
    7. That we use the microwave. What they cook tastes like slow fire
    8. That we, to protect ourselves, live surrounded by fences with alarms... They live with open doors, protected by the friendship of their neighbours.
    9. That we live connected to cell phones, computers, television. They are connected to life, sky, sun, water, fields, animals, their shadows and their families.
The father is very impressed by his son's feelings. Eventually the son concludes
    - Thank you for teaching me how poor we are!
Every day, we become poorer and poorer because we no longer observe nature, which is God's great work.

  • Episode 2: The Jealousy of Onwa

As time passed, Onwa's envy of Anyanwu grew stronger. He began to believe that the world needed his light more than his sister's. One fateful night, when the sky was clear and bright with the full moon, Onwa approached Chukwu, the supreme deity.

"Great Chukwu," Onwa began, bowing low. "I seek your wisdom. Why is it that Anyanwu shines so brightly, while I, who rule the night, am left in the shadows? Can I not have the power to bring light to the day as well?"

Chukwu, ever wise, gazed down upon Onwa. "Each of you has a purpose, Onwa," he said. "Your sister brings life to the earth with her warmth, while you give rest and reflection. Both are necessary for the world to thrive."

But Onwa was not satisfied. "I want more than rest and reflection," he insisted. "I want the people to love me as they love Anyanwu."

Chukwu sighed, knowing that the young moon was struggling with his role. "Very well, Onwa. I will grant you the power to shine as brightly as the sun-but only for one night. You will be known as Onwa Anya Nkwo, the moon that burns like the sun. Let the people see what it is like to live in your light."

Overjoyed, Onwa returned to the sky that night, and true to Chukwu's word, he shone with a radiance as bright as Anyanwu's. The people below marveled at the sight of the moon glowing like the sun. They danced in the streets, celebrating the unusual night.

But as the hours passed, the people grew weary. The crops, which usually rested in the cool night, began to wither under the constant heat. The rivers, deprived of their nightly coolness, began to dry up. The animals that thrived in the moonlight hid in fear. What had once been a night of wonder turned into one of distress.

As dawn approached, Anyanwu watched from the horizon, her heart heavy with sorrow for her brother's actions. She knew that his desire to be loved had led him astray. When the time came for her to rise, she hesitated. She did not want to shame Onwa, but the land was suffering without her light.

With a deep breath, Anyanwu rose in the sky, her brilliant rays piercing through the fading light of Onwa. The people sighed in relief as the sun took its rightful place in the heavens, restoring balance to the earth.
