UMANAH ASSUMES DUTY, VOWS TO REVOLUTIONIZE INFORMATION DISSEMINATION IN A'IBOM ... announces plans to establish new Media Directorate Fresh from his inauguration into the State Executive Council, the Commissioner in-charge of the Ministry of Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah today assumed office with a pledge to revolutionize information dissemination in the State with focus on deepening conversation on the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno. Umanah, who expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity to serve, charged Staff in the Ministry to brace up for the task ahead. The Commissioner commended his predecessor, Comrade Ini Ememobong, for his excellent work and assured that he will build upon the existing foundation. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating that every staff is important and encouraged a spirit of camaraderie among the team. The Commissioner also highlighted his plans to create a department of New Media, to leverage technology to enhance communication and information dissemination. He reiterated his commitment to driving the ARISE Agenda, a 5-pillar initiative with 17 focal points aimed at transforming the state. The Commissioner, who was accompanied by his Wife, Mrs. Maureen Umanah was ushered into the Ministry by a team of excited Staff, led by the Permanent Secretary, Akparawa James Edet. The Governor announced this while addressing sympathisers at the funeral service in honour of late elderstatesman, Obong Cyril Mathew Ekiko, at Primary School grounds, Nung Asang. Governor Eno explained that the road construction, besides aligning with the rural development thrust of his administration, was to keep faith with the understanding he had with the deceased during his political campaign. "I didn't know Uyo extends to this area. I would have thought it is Etinan Local Government Area. Be that as it may, I have asked the Ministry of Works to work with you to open up another road here. We are doing two already, but we will try and add one more in honour of your Dad." He recalled consulting late Obong Cyril Ekiko, a former Member of the Cross River State House of Assembly in the second republic, to canvass support for his election as governor and the elder statesman drew his attention to the non inclusion of indigenes of Ikono Uyo in the State Executive Council since the creation of the State. He informed the people that the area has been fully represented in the new State Exco billed for inauguration on Monday February 24, 2025.
