  • The beauty of Bible is that some translations are chiefly based on "earliest" manuscripts, while some are based on "majority" manuscripts. Whether earliest or majority, the biblical revelation is solidly preserved for us. Amen.

  • The idea of the Joshua Challenge is not to unravel God's power. Nobody can. The idea is to make people think. There are wrong answers but no right answer. Random is about thinking faith.

We've been told over the years faith and intellect don't mix. Nothing can be further from the truth. Jesus is called the Logos in the Bible. Logos is rational divine intelligence. It's from Logos we got the words, zoology, logic, and even logistics. Meaning, Jesus is the source code of the sciences and humanities. How can the Creator of the universe not understand science! The net effect of this wrong indoctrination is why some people of faith imagine God suddenly put brakes on the earth's rotation to answer Joshua's prayer. Just a little bit of research would have killed such thought.

I have also seen people struggling with the Joshua Challenge refer to the Bible passage as a myth. They unwittingly imagine themselves the boundary of knowledge. What they don't understand is unattainable. And instead of crediting themselves with ignorance, they lay the charge at the feet of Christianity. The ironic thing is, if a Christian attributes a gap in knowledge to God, they label God, "God of the gaps." But when they do the same, they fail to label themselves. Lords of the gap? Are Joshua, the Cananites, and the Israelites a myth? Of course not!

What they don't realize is that they themselves verify scripture in being drawn to a social media page exalting Jesus. As it is written, "And I, if and when I am lifted up from the earth on the cross, will draw all people to Myself - Gentiles, as well as Jews.” (John 12:32) They fulfil scripture.

As to Christians who think such exercises are needless, "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter." (Proverbs 25:2) I find it an interesting coincidence that Einstein describes space as a fabric, just as the Bible does in Hebrews1:12. That's what cross polination of knowledge does. It makes scriptures real, makes us appreciate God more.

Intellect is not anti God. Ignorance is. There is such a thing as intelligent faith.

*The Joshua Challenge submissions will be reviewed over the weekend. Results will be announced Tuesday.

  • DAILY ANNA

    FRIDAY 15TH NOVEMBER, 2024

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT JESUS? 🫵🏽

    TEXT: JOHN 5:39-47

KEY VERSE: "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me" (JOHN 5:39).

What you know about people usually determines your relationship with them. When you are ignorant of the power and influence of someone, you are more likely to disregard and disdain such an individual. In the process, many rob themselves of life's most important benefits. Because knowledge is power, as people often say, acquisition of the right knowledge drives what you do and how far you can go in harnessing the benefits from the person or subject or profession that you really know.

The Lord had just healed a man who had been ill for 38 years. But rather than rejoice over the miracle, the Jews were upset with the man that was healed and attacked Jesus for doing this good work on the Sabbath day. But Jesus was undaunted and urged them to read through the Scriptures, whose contents all point to His coming. Their minds were closed; their hearts were blinded to their best spiritual interests.

They refused to accept the person of Jesus. He told them that they did not love God; otherwise, they would have rejoiced at the Messiah the Father sent to the world. They loved to receive honour from men, not God. Their fate would be sealed in all eternity based on the Scriptures they read but did not believe. And if they did not believe the words Moses wrote, how would they accept what Jesus said?

Wilful disregard for God's word is dangerous. Anyone who persists in it would soon become hardened and perpetually miss the transformation of life that Christ gives. You must also shun every tendency to crave the approval of men. What matters is what God says about you. And you will not know what He thinks about you if you are ignorant of the Scriptures.

✍🏽 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The knowledge of Christ sets a person free from bondage.

  • At 13, I heard a message that sparked curiosity: 'When God is Silent' . Two Nigerian preachers shared their insights, but I couldn't shake off the doubt . How could God, the ever-present loving guide, choose silence? My church teachers didn't appreciate my questions , but some admired my inquisitive spirit (and English skills - a one-eyed giant in the midst of the blind, English-wise ).

As I look back, I realize I was born in the 'don't question the preachers' era . Interestingly, my curiosity influenced a Muslim friend, who dared to question the Islamic cleric in the mosque, just like I did in church! He confided in me, 'I want to ask questions, but I fear the flogging' . I encouraged him to endure the flogging if it will produce truth. Ah, Omo kekere! My guy no try am, ki ni iyato ninu egba alfa tin binu ATI ti egun ti o ri owo gba?

Years later, life's experiences revealed a profound truth: God isn't silent; He's always in His library, the Bible, waiting to guide us .

Prayerfully, with discipline, patience, and hunger, we can find direction and clarity in His library . No debate necessary! Jesus isn't hosting a debate club or live-streaming your arguments . Check His contact info – the Bible – and ask Him directly; He's always available, no silence guaranteed .
Now, that's my special way of destroying a good write-up – with a powerful message and a dash of humour!

  • He clearly had doctrinal issues and twisted scriptures to soothe his stance. He was trying to correct someone who didn't know much about the Bible, except for singing "I love Jesus, he's my friend." We patiently listened to him while he scolded the young Christian; apparently, it was an issue of morality, just a minor misdemeanor in my opinion. The girl was really sad, broken, confused, and ashamed.

Looking for backup after the long sermon, he asked my husband in Yoruba, "Egbon, se mo paro?" (Meaning: Big brother, did I lie/Am I lying?).

In a soft, measured tone, my darling husband replied: "Iro ko le so, O to le pa" (You did not lie, you killed the truth).

    Him:
    Me: (outwardly) (inside)
The girl: (with a lightened face) 🙌🏽

He never spoke to us again even when we tried to fix the situation, he was still angry.
