  • Progeria: The Science Behind Rapid Aging in Children

    Overview

Progeria, also known as Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS), is an extremely rare genetic disorder that causes children to age rapidly. Most children with Progeria appear normal at birth but begin to show signs of aging within the first two years of life.

    Causes

Progeria is caused by a mutation in the LMNA gene, which produces lamin A, a protein that helps maintain cell structure. The mutation creates a defective protein called progerin, which leads to premature aging and cellular damage.

    Symptoms

    Growth delays and short stature

Loss of body fat and muscle

Prominent veins and tight, aged-looking skin

    Stiff joints and hip dislocations

Cardiovascular disease, leading to strokes and heart attacks in early teens

    Diagnosis

Doctors diagnose Progeria based on symptoms and confirm it with genetic testing for the LMNA mutation.

    Treatment

There is no cure, but treatments aim to slow disease progression:

Lonafarnib (Zokinvy): A drug that reduces progerin buildup and extends lifespan by a few years

Heart medications to manage blood pressure and prevent heart disease

Physical therapy to maintain mobility and reduce joint stiffness

Surgery (bypass or stents) for severe cardiovascular complications

    Life Expectancy and Outlook

Children with Progeria typically live 12 to 15 years, with heart disease being the leading cause of death. Advances in genetic research offer hope for future treatments.

The queen being the evil monster she was decided to take action that left the innocent Sophia helpless even before the king.

The law stated that anyone that stole from the royal family will be punished by the queen. So the queen used this as an opportunity to punish Sophia.

The queen banished her from the castle and made her to stay in the servants quarter. Sophia was helpless and the king could not do as it was the law.

Sophia had no choice but to move to the servants quarter. Sophia was a given a room to stay and was always locked in the room like a prisoner.

Many years went on and Sophia got used to her life of muteness. The queen and her children where happy after Sophia had left their presence.

Mary used this as an opportunity to get closer to her dad. The king had began to forget about Sophia and it was as if a spell was cast on him.

The servants were warned not to open the door to her room. Although they were allowed to serve her food. This continued for many years and no one remembered Sophia anymore.

A new maid was employed in the castle. The maid was a really curious young girl who loved wandering around the castle. One day, she was asked to serve someone who stayed in the servants quarter.

She was ordered not to open the door but only place the bowl of food on the front of the door. The maid arrived at the servant's quarter and dropped the food at the door like she was ordered to.

Being a curious girl, she opened the door and went into the room. She had heard rumors that the person who lived there was an evil person and all the maids avoided the room.

Solely written by ✍🏽 Precious Dakare Storiess~~~~~~~

Her father smiled at her as he fell in love with the enchanting melody from his daughter's voice. While singing, Sophia felt something weird. She began to cough until blood began to come out of her mouth and everywhere suddenly went black for Sophia.

It had been two weeks and Sophia had not been able to talk. The king was extremely worried. He called the royal family doctor and a test was conducted but it seemed that there was nothing behind her sudden muteness.

Unknown to the king, the doctor had been bribed by the monster he called a wife and a queen. The queen made sure the doctor was paid heavily for the fake report.

After a month, the king came to the conclusion that Sophia had become mute and there was nothing he could do to help her. Sophia was not left out in the pain. She felt useless as she was not able to make her dad proud.

The queen and her children made life difficult for Sophia by making her feel worthless to the family.
Mary the queen's daughter was not satisfied with the constant bullying of Sophia.

Mary decided to do something terrible to Sophia. One day, while Sophia was in the bathroom, Mary sneaked in and placed her necklace in Sophia's box with the plan of framing Sophia for theft.

Mary after her evil mission ran back to her own room smiling at her evil plan. Sophia came out of the bathroom without knowing the evil plot that had been set by Mary.

The next day, Mary announced that one of her jewelry had gone missing and requested that all the rooms should be searched. As a princess, the guards obeyed her and began the search.

Alas, the necklace was found in Sophia's room. Sophia was taken before the king and because she was mute, she couldn't defend herself. The queen being the evil monster she was decided to take action that left the innocent Sophia helpless even before the king.

Solely written by ✍🏽 PPrecious Dakare Stories~~~~~~~

Sophia was a beautiful girl who initially had a mesmerizing voice. Her father was the king of kingdom of Alvore. Although her father had a queen who he loved dearly, he fell in love with a commoner and got her pregnant and this resulted in Sophia.

The queen who was at that time pregnant with her third child heard this and was enraged. She began to express hatred for the unborn Sophia.

When Sophia became a year old, the king brought her to live in the palace with him and his family. The king loved Sophia so much and when the queen noticed this, she began to feel jealous.

She made her daughter who was the same age with Sophia and her two sons hate the innocent Sophia. The queen's daughter's name was Mary. Mary hated Sophia so much and hated the way her dad the king loved Sophia.

One of the many reasons the king loved Sophia was because of her angelic voice. Her voice was mesmerizing and alluring. Whenever she sang for her father, he would fall asleep for hours and he loved it.

The queen and her daughter had noticed this and began to plan evil things for Sophia. One day, the queen paid the guards to go into the forest and pluck a deadly flower known for it's deadly poison.

She bribed the guards and made sure no one including her children knew about it. She desperately wanted Sophia out of her kingdom and her castle and was willing to go an extra mile to achieve this.

One day, while Sophia was in her room, a cup of tea was brought to her by one of the maids in the castle. Sophia took the cup of tea and drank it. She was preparing to go and sing for her father as she usually did.

Sophia after drinking the tea, went to the palace living room where her father usually stayed. Sophia, on getting there, opened her mouth and started singing. As usual the voice was alluring and demure.
