After a flood separated Rikki-Tikki from his mother and father, he was found and nursed back to health by a colonial family who inhabits the bungalow. When Rikki-Tikki felt wholey himself again, he immediately began to bond with the family, especially their young son, Teddy. He felt it was his duty to protect the family from the dangers lurking just outside of their bungalow in their garden.
