  • THE MYSTIC WELL (cont.)

Lifting her load once more to her head, the old woman continued on her way as sure-footed as a young woman. Both girls could’ve sworn her haggard figure suddenly became lean and graceful as they watched her disappear into the distance with awe. Both suspected her to be a fairy, but who would ever believe them? It had always been rumored that ‘the godmother’ made her rounds during mid-year. Could that have been her?

Baffled, both girls left for home immediately. Tina got home to discover her family entertaining a visitor, a very fussy old woman whom she found annoying. Her mother called her aside, gave her a small water pot and told her to fetch some water from the spring for their visitor. “The spring? But why? That’s like three streets away! There’s water in a well two blocks away from here.” Tina argued, but her mother would hear none of it. She explained that their visitor did not drink well water and Tina was to hurry to and fro immediately.

Grumbling loudly and rudely, much to her parents’ embarrassment, Tina stomped out of the house. She did not go to the stream as instructed. Instead, she went to the wild garden two blocks away from her home and struggled further in through thorns and brambles until she found the well.

It looked so abandoned and no longer in use that she cursed before letting in the pail. As she pulled out the pail, she imagined what she’d find and prayed for jewels. If she found a necklace like Tessa’s, she would keep it for herself and become very rich. She would hire servants and no longer live with her parents or run their errands. Especially not for stinky, fussy, bad-tempered old women!

"Asake is big now, and a lot of his old friends complain that he no longer replies to their DMs. Personally, I have never sent him a DM because I know he won’t reply—he’s in a different space now. The kind of people he mingles with are not the same anymore.

People forget that Asake suffered. During his university days, he was homeless, squatting from place to place. Even after school, he was still squatting. That’s how he stayed with me for a while.

He deserves every bit of his success.
All this 'we used to live together' talk and entitlement needs to stop.

Naturally, he can't carry everybody along. If I get to his level, I’d do the same. Any of my friends who still want to be around should hustle, work hard, and meet me at the top. Asake is not ignoring people on purpose."

  • For book lovers who do not want to limit their scope to just romance, you can try thrillers and look for other genres that might interest you. Someone I highly recommend in the thriller aspect is Freida McFadden. Her books are utterly amazing and will fill you with suspense, awe and admiration for the way she writes. Her books are page turners that will keep you on the edge of your seat, you may be surprised by the twists and turns which you will never expect as each page draws you in until you finish the book. You can try out The house maids series,The locked door and The teacher.

  • THE MYSTIC WELL

There were two very good friends who lived far from each other in a small village. Although they were best friends, they were as unalike as chalk and cheese. Tessa was helpful and generous, but Tina was unhelpful and tight-fisted in everything, including favours. It was evident that the friendship held due to Tessa’s attitude. She was so helpful and eager to share that she never noticed that Tina was the opposite until one day.

Both girls had stepped into the wild garden of an abandoned manor to play as they always did. As they picked wild berries for their playful cooking, both noticed an old woman passing by with a heavy load on her head. The old woman struggled and suddenly stumbled, and Tessa rushed to help her so that she would not fall. Grateful, the old woman thanked Tessa and asked for a drink from a well at the far end of the wild garden.

Both girls never knew there was a well further in the garden and Tina tried to dissuade her friend from venturing into the wild tangle of crawling weeds. But Tessa ignored her and forged into the wild garden till she found a collapsed well with an old fetching pail leaning beside it. She picked it up and let it into the old well, but when she brought it back out, it was not water that she found!

Running back to the old woman, she showed her what she had fetched instead of water. In the old fetching pail shone crystals and jewels of different shapes and sizes. It definitely belonged to royalty, and royalty would pay a fortune to acquire it! The old woman smiled kindly at helpful Tessa and told her to keep it as a thank-you for helping her.
