Tragic Stampede at Ibadan Holiday Event
A stampede at a holiday funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, resulted in the deaths of several children. The event, organized by the Women In Need Of Guidance and Support Foundation at the Islamic High School in Basorun, was intended for families and children. Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed the incident and stated that the organizers have been arrested. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the stampede.

He said: “A stampede occurred at the private children’s fun fair held at Basorun Islamic High School, leading to loss of lives, mostly children, with some others injured in the early hours of today.

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has kicked against the private airstrip licence granted to Bishop David Oyedepo.

The council explained the reason for calling for the revocation of the licence.

The federal government granted Oyedepo’s church licence in October for the construction of an airstrip in Canaanaland in Ota, Ogun state.

The announcement of his demise was made by another prominent Islamic scholar, Alfa Aribidesi of At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah, on Friday morning. The news was also corroborated by popular cleric and follower of the late Bello, Alhaji Basit Olarenwaju, also known as Aponle Anabi, who shared a tribute to the late scholar on his official Facebook page.
