Ifeanyi Ejiofor, human rights lawyer and counsel for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has demanded the unconditional release of a detained famous native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki in Anambra State.

The Nigerian Army confirmed the death of two soldiers in a clash with operatives of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), an armed wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to a statement released by the Nigerian Army, the incident occurred at Osina, Ideator North Local Government Area of Imo State.

Biafra was established on 30 May 1967 by Igbo military officer and Eastern Region governor Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu under his presidency, following a series of ethnic tensions and military coups after Nigerian independence in 1960 that culminated in the 1966 anti-Igbo pogrom.

Biafra, secessionist western African state that unilaterally declared its independence from Nigeria in May 1967. It constituted the former Eastern Region of Nigeria and was inhabited principally by Igbo (Ibo) people. Biafra ceased to exist as an independent state in January 1970.29 Oct 2024
