  • THE MYSTIC WELL (cont.)

Lifting her load once more to her head, the old woman continued on her way as sure-footed as a young woman. Both girls could’ve sworn her haggard figure suddenly became lean and graceful as they watched her disappear into the distance with awe. Both suspected her to be a fairy, but who would ever believe them? It had always been rumored that ‘the godmother’ made her rounds during mid-year. Could that have been her?

Baffled, both girls left for home immediately. Tina got home to discover her family entertaining a visitor, a very fussy old woman whom she found annoying. Her mother called her aside, gave her a small water pot and told her to fetch some water from the spring for their visitor. “The spring? But why? That’s like three streets away! There’s water in a well two blocks away from here.” Tina argued, but her mother would hear none of it. She explained that their visitor did not drink well water and Tina was to hurry to and fro immediately.

Grumbling loudly and rudely, much to her parents’ embarrassment, Tina stomped out of the house. She did not go to the stream as instructed. Instead, she went to the wild garden two blocks away from her home and struggled further in through thorns and brambles until she found the well.

It looked so abandoned and no longer in use that she cursed before letting in the pail. As she pulled out the pail, she imagined what she’d find and prayed for jewels. If she found a necklace like Tessa’s, she would keep it for herself and become very rich. She would hire servants and no longer live with her parents or run their errands. Especially not for stinky, fussy, bad-tempered old women!

The Commandant General's Special Intelligence Squad (CG'S SIS) in a swift response to an Intelligence tip-off has impounded a long Caravan Truck with an in-built tank fully loaded with stolen crude oil.

The truck was sighted while on transit around Eleme flyover in Elelewon, Port Harcourt and was impounded by the CG'S SIS.

In a brief interview with the CG'S SIS Boss; Commandant AS Dandaura hinted that his men were swiftly deployed to the crime scene and upon arrival they impounded a red head navy blue colour container truck with Registration number AGL574XY which was fully loaded with siphoned stolen crude illegally drawn from vandalised well-heads and destroyed installed pipelines.

Commandant Dandaura relayed that the conveyers of the Truck took to their heels as the operatives approached the scene of the crime.

He noted that the exhibits are already confiscated as investigative process have been launched to track down the syndicate who perpetrated such a heinous act of economic sabotage.

"For the records, the exhibits recovered at the point of arrest are: A red head and navy blue colour container with 10 tyres (Reg.no AGL564-XL), an estimated content of about 70,000 litres of stolen crude.

"Hence at expiration of a thorough investigation, the NSCDC would file for forfeiture of the mode of conveyance and the contents at the court of competent jurisdiction thereafter, the proceeds would be remitted to the proceeds of crime account (POCA)".

The CG'S SIS Commander further expressed the commitment of the Squad to keep waging relentless war against oil thieves and their sponsors as he affirmed that suspects arrested would be brought to book after diligent investigation.
