  • Devastating wildfires have been raging through Los Angeles County, deeply affecting the community. Many students, staff, faculty, and alumni have lost their homes or been displaced by the fires ¹. The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is in close proximity to the Palisades Fire, but fortunately, it's not currently in an evacuation zone. However, classes are being held remotely, and the campus is providing frequent updates on the wildfire status, campus news, and community resources ¹.

To support those affected, Governor Gavin Newsom has signed an executive order to help Los Angeles rebuild faster and stronger. The order waives certain permitting requirements, extends protections against price gouging, and commits to working with the Legislature to identify statutory changes that can help expedite rebuilding while enhancing wildfire resilience and safety ².

The situation is constantly evolving, but here are some key points to know:

    - *Fire Status*: Wildfires are still burning in Los Angeles County, with many areas under evacuation orders.
    - *University Response*: UCLA and other University of California campuses are providing resources, support, and aid to those affected by the fires.
    - *Government Support*: Governor Newsom's executive order aims to streamline the rebuilding process and provide protections against price gouging.
    - *How to Help*: Various organizations, including the American Red Cross, are accepting donations to support those affected by the fires.

  • Feed Formulation for Poultry

Feed formulation is the process of creating a balanced and nutritious mixture of ingredients to meet the dietary needs of poultry. This ensures optimal health, growth, reproduction, and performance of the birds, whether they are raised for meat or eggs. A proper feed formulation considers the age, purpose, and requirements of the birds to achieve the best results. Below are expert recommendations for feed formulations for different stages of poultry development:

    Starter Feed (0-8 weeks):

    Maize: 50 kilograms
    Soya Meal: 17.5 kilograms
    Fish Meal: 12 kilograms
    Maize Bran: 10 kilograms
    Sunflower Cake: 4.5 kilograms
    Limestone: 4 kilograms
    Bone Meal: 1.5 kilograms
    Salt: 300 grams
    Premix: 200 grams
    Toxin Binder: 100 grams
This feed provides essential high protein (18-20%) to support rapid growth and healthy development of chicks during their early life stages.

    Grower Feed (9-20 weeks):

    Maize: 60 kilograms
    Soya Meal: 14 kilograms
    Fish Meal: 10 kilograms
    Maize Bran: 7 kilograms
    Sunflower Cake: 5 kilograms
    Limestone: 2.5 kilograms
    Bone Meal: 1.2 kilograms
    Salt: 200 grams
    Premix: 100 grams
    Toxin Binder: 50 grams
This formulation reduces the protein content to approximately 16-18%, preparing the birds for their next phase of development, focusing on steady growth and organ maturity.

    Layer Feed (20+ weeks):

    Maize: 55 kilograms
    Soya Meal: 13 kilograms
    Fish Meal: 8 kilograms
    Maize Bran: 12 kilograms
    Sunflower Cake: 6 kilograms
    Limestone: 5 kilograms
    Bone Meal: 2 kilograms
    Salt: 300 grams
    Premix: 150 grams
    Toxin Binder: 100 grams
This feed is designed to sustain egg production, with a protein content of about 16%. It also includes sufficient calcium to ensure strong and durable eggshells, supporting the overall health of laying birds.

These formulations ensure that poultry receives the right nutrients at every stage of their life, contributing to high productivity and profitability in poultry farming. For more insights, follow #5MinsDailyHack.
