Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has received the symbolic torch to kickstart the Niger Delta Sports Festival taking place in Uyo.
Receiving the torch from the famous Olympic medalist, Mr. Aniefiok Udobong at Government House, Uyo, Governor Eno appreciated the privilege accorded the State by the Niger Delta Development Commission to host the festival.
He acknowledged the gains the event has impacted on the State, stressing that sports talents will be discovered through the regional sports event.
"I so much appreciate the integrative tendency of the sports festival as it will really help to unite and bring the whole region together for our common good," he said.
The Governor who was full of excitement to be presented with the sports festival torch, had members of the State executive council present to equally witness the symbolic event marking the commencement of the festival.
The Chairman of the festival planning committee, Mr. Alabo Boma Iyaye, noted that the sports fiesta is the first of its kind in the South-South region of Nigeria.
Mr. Boma disclosed that the sports game will witness over 4000 participating athletes from States of the Niger Delta region competing in various sporting games to win medals of different kinds.
