WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT JESUS? 🫡🏽

    TEXT: JOHN 5:39-47

KEY VERSE: "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me" (JOHN 5:39).

What you know about people usually determines your relationship with them. When you are ignorant of the power and influence of someone, you are more likely to disregard and disdain such an individual. In the process, many rob themselves of life's most important benefits. Because knowledge is power, as people often say, acquisition of the right knowledge drives what you do and how far you can go in harnessing the benefits from the person or subject or profession that you really know.

The Lord had just healed a man who had been ill for 38 years. But rather than rejoice over the miracle, the Jews were upset with the man that was healed and attacked Jesus for doing this good work on the Sabbath day. But Jesus was undaunted and urged them to read through the Scriptures, whose contents all point to His coming. Their minds were closed; their hearts were blinded to their best spiritual interests.

They refused to accept the person of Jesus. He told them that they did not love God; otherwise, they would have rejoiced at the Messiah the Father sent to the world. They loved to receive honour from men, not God. Their fate would be sealed in all eternity based on the Scriptures they read but did not believe. And if they did not believe the words Moses wrote, how would they accept what Jesus said?

Wilful disregard for God's word is dangerous. Anyone who persists in it would soon become hardened and perpetually miss the transformation of life that Christ gives. You must also shun every tendency to crave the approval of men. What matters is what God says about you. And you will not know what He thinks about you if you are ignorant of the Scriptures.

✍🏽 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The knowledge of Christ sets a person free from bondage.

    *NO GUILT, NO CONDEMNATION*
    TEXT: ROMANS 8:1-6

*KEY VERSE:* _"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit" (ROMANS 8:1)._

    *READING:*
    *ROMANS 8:1-6*

[1]There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

[2]For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

[3]For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

[4]That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

[5]For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

[6]For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

    *MESSAGE:*
A man was once caught by his supervisor stealing a chicken after work in the office. The supervisor promised not to report to the manager as long as the man will always do as he tells him. Using this threat of blackmail, the supervisor continued to exploit the accused man to his advantage. One day, the man got fed up with this guilt and enslavement to his supervisor. He walked up to the manager and confessed his act, ending the scandal that held him in guilt and condemnation.

Sin breeds guilt, condemnation, fear of judgement and inescapable retribution. Our passage today talks about the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus that sets us free from the law of sin and death. The 'law of sin and death' is likened to the law of gravity that pulls objects down to the earth. In contrast, the 'law of the spirit of life in Christ' is like the law of aerodynamics that enables an aeroplane to fly, overruling gravitational force. When we are born again, we come under the law of the spirit of life in Christ, where sin can no longer dominate us.

Satan may accuse saints wrongly, but being cleansed by the blood of the Lamb, their sins are remembered no more. Consequently, they exercise themselves daily to have a conscience void of offence towards God and men, and are free from guilt and condemnation.

Every sinner who will decide to turn away from his sins today will receive pardon and walk in perfect fellowship with Christ. No longer will he be under the guilt and condemnation of sin or the cruel control of Satan. To receive this salvation, you must accept your faults, confess them to God and ask for pardon through the sacrifice of Christ for your complete freedom. Do not allow Satan to keep you in bondage.

  • *DON'T PRANK GOD! 🫡🏽*

    *TEXT:* 1 KINGS 14:1-20

_* KEY VERSE:* "And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people" (1 KINGS 14:2)._

Man is used to playing games with fellow mortals and getting away with his pranks. But it is perilous to attempt the habit on God. That is where he would always meet his waterloo. It is safe turf for men of the world to try to outwit kindred spirits. However, it is outright fatal foolishness to engage in any tricks with God and His messengers and expect a happy end to the story.

It was a sad conclusion for the blasphemous and idolatrous king of Israel, Jeroboam, as he tried to pull a fast one on the true prophet of God, Ahijah. He asked his wife to disguise herself and go find out from the prophet if his ailing son would recover. The couple sought to take advantage of the blind man of God. They underrated the power of the Lord to shield His representative from exploitation or ridicule. He outsmarted them by exposing the identity of the pretender. The Lord also revealed to the prophet that the sick child would die while Jeroboam himself would have his kingship terminated.

It is folly to attempt to take advantage of the perceived weakness in a man of God to deceive or exploit him. They may not be as educated, widely travelled or exposed; but they possess the Holy Spirit. God cannot be fooled and trying to pull pranks on Him will be costly foolishness on the part of that individual. Ananias and Sapphira tried to do it with Peter and paid the ultimate price for it.

God's servants and ministers must be held in high esteem and honoured. We must recognise that they are servants and living oracles of the almighty God. We must honour and respect His anointing upon their lives and never try to fool them so we can enjoy the full benefits of the power of God upon them.

    *GOD'S SAFE PLACE! πŸ™ŒπŸ½*

    *TEXT:* PSALM 91:1-16

    *READING*

    *Psalms 91:1*
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

    *Psalms 91:2*
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

    *Psalms 91:3*
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

    *Psalms 91:4*
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

    *Psalms 91:5*
    Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

    *Psalms 91:6*
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

    *Psalms 91:7*
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

    *Psalms 91:8*
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

    *Psalms 91:9*
    Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

    *Psalms 91:10*
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

    *Psalms 91:11*
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

    *Psalms 91:12*
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

    *Psalms 91:13*
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

    *Psalms 91:14*
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

    *Psalms 91:15*
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

    *Psalms 91:16*
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

_* KEY VERSE:* "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty" (PSALM 91:1)._

Scientists at the US Department of Health and Human Services have said that in the event of a nuclear blast, survival in an underground bomb shelter is guaranteed for only a few months. They claim that such isolation ensures protection from "the...intense...and the higher levels of radioactive fallout you are at risk of exposure to." You must also enjoy "proper supplies and air filtration" to see you through the quarantine.

Contrast man's atomic bunker of severely limited capacity to protect from death with that of the "secret place of the most High". God says if you dwell in His shelter, you will be abiding "under the shadow of the Almighty," beyond the reach of any danger, whether posed by thousands of the troops of the enemy or by perpetrators of evil forces under the cover of the night. The psalmist arrays quite formidable physical and spiritual foes that would trouble man. But he says they cannot come near those taking refuge in God.

This is good news for humanity, which has been locked in the throes of fear and helplessness for ages. Initiative after initiative by governments and their think tanks have not offered succour. This is because they have not looked toward the secret and sacred place where God promises unlimited deliverance and safety. This assurance is most comforting against the backdrop of growing dangers and conflicts in our world today.

The call on all who "labour and are heavy laden" to come for rest in God is still open. The rest He gives is through salvation brought by His Son Jesus Christ. As we receive Him as Lord by faith, He builds a fortress in which He hides us here on earth, ahead of His return, to take us to the final resting place He has prepared for us in heaven.
