João Félix is a strange footballer. Talented but difficult to pin where he plays best or what he does best. It's not difficult to see why some people don't have a definite opinion about him and what he offers.

BUT, I can say that for €40m plus, it's not a bad deal. He's solid as a forward behind the striker if he's allowed freedom. He's intelligent. Off the ball, he isn't great, which is what I want to focus on.

If you are a team that struggles to execute counter press, you will have a problem with Felix. He doesn't want to run back always. There are a lot of players who hate that but Felix counter-presses very well. He's like Nkunku in that sense. Nkunku against City won more tackles (3) and recovered more balls (6) than any other Chelsea player. And he did most of that counter-pressing in his zone not running back and tackling.

If João Félix has a specific zone to manage off the ball like Nkunku had, I don't think he will struggle defensively. His duels success rate in La Liga last season was 48% which is good for a forward.

He can tackle, counter press but he hates tracking runners, but as long as you have a swift, effective counter press structure, then he's good. I think I saw quality press structure against City. I won't worry about that.

However, in my opinion, it's not advisable to use him against quality opponents that are tough to press and can bypass the press easily.

For me, he's very useful against low blocks and hopefully he will be used for that purpose and not in big games.

In a game where our press will be bypassed easily and players forced to track back and return to defensive shape as soon as possible, I wouldn't start João Félix until he improves in that aspect.

Like I said, that's my opinion.

We’ve signed a top, top player for very little money in today’s market. Now it’s time for his football to do the talking.
