Over forty petitioners have expressed their intention to challenge the results of the October 5 local government elections conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.
Our correspondent, who visited the Rivers State Local Government Election Tribunal Registry, reports that most of these cases have been filed by APC chairmanship candidates, Labour Party and others. These candidates are challenging the elections of the elected council chairmen who ran under the Action Peoples Party, APP.
Also, nearly all twenty-three local government chairmen are being brought before the tribunal. Meanwhile, the tribunal has started its sessions and is hearing cases filed by aggrieved politicians. It has also ordered the inspection of ballot papers and result sheets used in the elections.
