Electrostatics
Electrostatics is the study of electric charge which is static or at rest. It deals with the phenomena and properties of stationary or slow-moving electric charges. All objects surrounding us contain large amounts of electric charge. The two types of electric charge are positive and negative charge.

Positive charge: An object or a particle is said to be positively charged if the number of positive ions is larger than the number of negative ions. That is, the number of protons is larger than the number of electrons. To neutralise a positively charged particle or object, electrons from the surroundings come into the particle or object until the number of protons and electrons become equal.

Negative charge: An object or particle is said to be negatively charged if the number of negative ions is larger than the number of position ions. That is, the electrons is larger than the number of protons. To neutralise a negatively charged particle or object, electrons move to the ground or any other particle or object around it. This is because protons cannot move to the negatively charged ions.

If an object contains the same amounts of negative and positive charge, there is no net charge and the object is said to be electrically neutral. That is, when the number of positive ions is equal to the number of negative ions. If there is more of one type of charge than the other in an object, then the object is said to be electrically charged.
