ARMY APPLAUDS GOV UMO ENO OVER SUPPORT FOR MILITARY, OTHER SECURITY AGENCIES
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has been applauded for his continuous support for the Nigeria Army and other security agencies in the State.
The new General Officer Commanding, GOC, 6 Division of the Army, Major General Eric Emekah, made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Governor, at the Government House, Uyo.
General Emekah who was on a tour of detachments under his command in the State, following his assumption of duties, said the Nigerian Army was aware of Governor Eno's support for the military and other security agencies.
"I've been to Akwa Ibom several times on oversight functions based on my previous appointment as deputy chief of operations, so I can say what you have been doing for the Army. Therefore, I want to, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff and the officers and men of 6 Division, say thank you very much, particularly for 2 Brigade who are the primary beneficiary of your hospitality," he said.
Receiving the delegation, Governor Eno congratulated the GOC on his new assignment, and expressed appreciation over the commendation.
He stressed on the need for stronger collaborations with the Army, and highlighted with appreciation, the important role played by security agencies in ensuring the safety of citizens both on land and within the water ways.
While assuring of his commitment to peace and security in the State, he reiterated his call for an Army base to assist provide maritime security along the Oron coastal areas.
"For us as a state, we will continue to support the Nigerian Army and the security agencies to carry out their jobs because for us, they are protecting our State and our people. So, we will continue to do all we can to support our security agencies to do their jobs better.
"I remember the last time when the late Chief of Army Staff had a conference here, we had made a request that we needed a battalion along the Oron-Urueffong Oruko axis because that will help check criminality along the waterways. He had promised then, but unfortunately he has passed on. I believe you can help us to achieve that," he said.
To receive the GOC along with the Governor were the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah and members of the newly constituted State Executive Council.
