Sporting Reflect on Kai Havertz's Role in Arsenal's Dominant Victory
"We gave away too many chances, and they were very efficient. It was a tough night," Hjulmand admitted to reporters after the match. "It wasn’t good enough.
"When they dropped their striker into a number ten or even number eight role, they added more players in midfield. We could feel that on the pitch, and they’re a strong opponent."
Former Portugal international Pereira, enduring a heavy defeat early in the post-Amorim era, revealed he had anticipated Kai Havertz playing a more traditional centre-forward role.
"We expected Havertz to stay higher up the pitch, but he frequently dropped deeper into midfield," Pereira explained. His adjustments at half-time were quickly undermined when Bukayo Saka converted a penalty just past the hour mark, effectively sealing Arsenal's win.
"We changed things at the break and initially responded well, but the penalty made it worse," Pereira continued. "Conceding so early [Martinelli scored after seven minutes] unsettled us, and being 3-0 down by halftime affected the players. We started the second half strongly, but the penalty killed our momentum."
