Former Senator John Azuta Mbata has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to concentrate on his ministerial duties in Abuja and refrain from attempting to influence affairs in Rivers State. Mbata, who represented Rivers East Constituency during the Fourth Republic, advised Wike to allow Governor Siminalayi Fubara to govern without interference.

Mbata emphasized the need for unity and support for Governor Fubara’s administration, stating, “This is the time and opportunity for Sir Siminalayi Fubara to show his capacity to move Rivers State forward.” He further noted his pivotal role in Wike’s political rise, recalling his decision to back Wike as Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Council in 1998.

In a related development, academics from five higher institutions in Rivers State have called for peace amid the ongoing political tension. Representing Rivers State University, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, and the College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, the scholars under the aegis of Simplified Academics lamented the state’s political instability.

Prof. Akuro Gobo, a lecturer at Rivers State University and Coordinator General of the group, lauded Fubara’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and human capacity development. He questioned why Rivers State remains mired in political discord when other states unite post-election to foster development.
