They Are Gone And They Are Gone — Governor Fubara On 27 Lawmakers Who Defected To APC

In a video posted by Symfoni TV, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara addressed the recent defection of Martin Amaewhule and 27 other members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Fubara expressed his disappointment with the lawmakers, describing their move as a significant misstep that ultimately led to the loss of their seats in the assembly. Initially, Fubara considered helping the defected lawmakers, believing in unity for the state. However, after observing their actions, he decided to shift his priorities and focus on Rivers State's future.

Fubara confirmed he would not present the 2024 budget to the assembly under Amaewhule's leadership, instead concentrating on the 2025 budget. He underscored that the defected lawmakers no longer hold legitimate positions in the state legislature, as their seats were declared vacant in December 2023. Addressing the defectors, Fubara remarked, "In our 2025 budget, which we've already started, don't worry about those people who are delusional. They think we are still sleeping." He attributed their defection to divine intervention, noting that their error was part of a larger plan, and reflected on his initial willingness to assist them.

Fubara emphasized his administration’s resolve not to reverse the decision declaring the seats vacant, insisting that the lawmakers' actions would lead to their political decline. He highlighted the need for robust public schools and healthcare systems, as well as infrastructure improvements, affirming his commitment to these sectors. Fubara's remarks have fueled discussions on the state’s political landscape, showcasing his dedication to the long-term development of Rivers State.
