The Lagos position as regional financial hub is acknowledged globally especially since ‘despite the relocation of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s [CBN] Headquarters to Abuja, Tinubu Square [Lagos Island Central Business District] still holds so much potential. As a further demonstration of this, Lagos State, as the gateway to Nigeria’s and ECOWAS economy, houses the headquarters/regional offices of national financial and professional regulatory authorities.

The Economic Community of West African States Food and Cultural Festival says its upcoming festival holding in Nigeria is aimed at promoting food security, poverty alleviation and zero tolerance for hunger in 16 ECOWAS countries.

It is expected that the lifting of sanctions imposed on the countries of Niger and Guinea will help to restore economic affairs properly and provide peace and development in the entire ECOWAS region.

Also, Nigeria has announced the lifting of the embargo on the supply of electricity to the Republic of Niger which it previously did.

"The ban on business and financial transactions between Nigeria and Niger has also been lifted, with the retention of Niger's assets in the Central Bank of ECOWAS and commercial banks." according to the statement.

In addition, President Tinubu's directive includes the lifting of the travel ban imposed on government officials and their relatives from Niger.

This step shows the intention to do diplomatic relations and promote peaceful relations in the ECOWAS region.

Moreover, the decision to lift financial and economic sanctions imposed on the Republic of Guinea shows Nigeria's support for efforts to stabilize and restore peace in the region.

The statement added that President Tinubu took the decision as a result of the ECOWAS summit held on February 24, 2024, in Abuja, where the leaders agreed to lift the economic sanctions imposed on some countries of the group, including and the Republic of Niger.
