FOR 50 YEARS, WE WERE SPENDING THE MONEY OF GENERATIONS YET UNBORN: PRESIDENT TINUBU

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu articulated on Thursday the rationale behind his administration's economic reforms, saying the primary motive was protecting the interests of future generations.
    .
"For 50 years, Nigeria was spending money of generations yet unborn and servicing the West coast of our subregion with fuel. It was getting difficult to plan for our children's future," he said.

He made these remarks at the State House in Abuja while receiving a delegation of former National Assembly colleagues from the aborted Third Republic, during which he served as a Senator representing Lagos West.

The President highlighted the challenges faced at the beginning of his administration, especially economic and social issues, and expressed his gratitude for the delegation's support in addressing these difficulties:

"We faced serious headwinds when I took over, very challenging times. Nigeria would have been bankrupt if we had not taken the actions that we took, and we had to prevent the economy's collapse.

President Tinubu declared that the administration had been able to stem the tide and expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their collective support in turning things around.

"Today, we are sitting pretty on a good foundation. We have reversed the problem; the Exchange rate is stabilising. Food prices are coming down, especially during Ramadan. We will have light at the end of the tunnel."

He said firm adherence to democratic tenets is the best route to economic, social, and political development.

"I am happy that you are holding to your belief in democracy. I thank you for keeping faith and remembering how we started. Some people missed the ball.

"Some leadership failed, but we kept the faith with our democratic beliefs and freedom and the right to aspire to the highest office in the land. I am benefitting from it."

Senator Emmanuel Chiedoziem Nwaka, who spoke on behalf of the group, expressed his delight at some of the programmes that the Tinubu administration had implemented, especially the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) and at what the two organisations were offering Nigerians.

"I appreciate you for what you are giving to students because the student population is the largest demographic in the country. I've spoken with many of them, and many have benefited from it.

"And the next one is the CREDICORP. That's a major way of fighting corruption. You see a young man, you come out of school, you want to buy a car, you have to put down cash, you want to buy a house, and you are not married, but with the CREDICORP, you can get things done. I'm following their activities; we are delighted," he said.

Other members of the delegation were Sen. Bako Aufara Musa, Hon. Terwase Orbunde, Hon. Wasiu Logun, Hon. Amina Aliyu, High Chief Obi Anoliefo and Hon. Eze Nwauwa.

  • Tafa Balogun served as Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police from 2002 to 2004. During his tenure, he launched Operation Fire For Fire, a initiative aimed at reducing armed robbery and other criminal activities. However, his time in office was cut short when he resigned in 2004 amidst corruption allegations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Balogun faced an eight-count charge of diverting and embezzling public funds. In 2005, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months in prison by an Abuja high court.

Prior to the sentencing, he had spent 67 days in EFCC custody.

As part of his sentencing, Balogun was ordered to pay a fine of N500,000 for each of the eight charges, totaling N4 million. Additionally, he was required to forfeit all assets, shares, and properties acquired with the stolen funds, valued at $150 million. These assets included cash in banks, shares in prominent companies, and 14 luxury buildings.

Later in 2005, EFCC chairman Nuhu Ribadu announced that the commission had recovered N17 billion from Balogun.

  • BREAKING: Senator Natasha Reports Her Suspension, Case Against Senate President Godswill Akpabio To UN Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)

At the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said she is seeking justice and intervention from international democratic institutions over what she terms an “unlawful suspension” from the Nigerian senate.

She said: “I come with a heavy heart from Nigeria. But first, I will like to apologise to Hon. Kafilat Ogbara. I am not here to bring shame to our country, I am here to seek help for the women of Nigeria,” she told assembly.

“Five days ago, on the 6th of March 2025, I was suspended as a senator illegally because I submitted a petition of sexual harassment against the president of the Nigerian senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

“I thought by submitting the petition, he would recuse himself and both of us would submit ourselves to the committee of ethics, privileges and public petitions for a fair and transparent investigation.

“But unfortunately, I was silenced, and I was suspended for six months among many other stringent conditions, such as taking away my security, taking away all the official vehicles and other items that were handed over to me as a senator.

“My salary would be cut off. I must not appear anywhere near the national assembly. And for six months, I am not to present myself as a senator locally in Nigeria and internationally. I am here illegally, and I have no other place to go but to come here”.

She said her suspension is not just about her, but about the exclusion of women in political leadership in Nigeria.

“This is a clear case of political victimization, punishment for speaking out against impunity, corruption and gender-based violence,” she added.

  • Chapter 3: The Transformation

In the shadows, the Dark Souls underwent a horrifying transformation. Their humanity withered away, replaced by something far more sinister. They became demons themselves, creatures of smoke and flame, with the ability to wear their human forms like masks. But beneath the surface, they were monsters, driven by a hunger for power and destruction.

The Dark Souls spread across the land like a plague. They razed villages to the ground, enslaved entire populations, and sowed fear wherever they went. Their runes gave them strength beyond measure, and their numbers grew as more and more people fell under their influence.

The world was plunged into darkness. The once-thriving communities built by the pure souls were reduced to ashes, and the land itself seemed to wither under the weight of the demons’ corruption. The angels wept for their beloved children, but they could not intervene directly. The runes had been a gift, and it was up to humanity to decide how to use them.
