  • When I married my wife newly, something dramatic happened. I think it was the third day of our marriage or so.

I was sleeping beside my wife when my eyes suddenly opened and I turned to her.

I noticed my wife had not cuddled me that night. Usually, she will turn around and hold me somehow.

But I didn't feel her hands touch me.

Even at some point when I was holding her she didn't respond. She was just lying like a log of wood.

So I woke up and stared at her.

    Her body was not moving.

It was like she was not breathing.

I thought my wife had died in her sleep.

Brand new wife I just married o.

Wife that I have not even enjoyed.

I called her name in a whisper and she didn't respond.

She was still in her position.

    Motionless.

    I sat up.

At that moment I kept asking myself what will people say. That an Igbo man used his wife for money rituals after three days of marriage?

    I tapped my wife again.

    "Honey... Honey..."

    She was still sleeping.

At that point, I didn't know what entered me and I shouted.

    "Honey get up."

    My wife jolted up.

    She turned to me shocked.

"What is it na? Haba. Why are you shouting in the middle of the night?"

    "So you are still alive?"

"Did you plan to kill me before? Which kind of question is that one?

"No, I was just asking. Because I tapped you and you didn't wake up."

    "Am I not sleeping?"

"O I didn't know. Sorry na. So when you use to sleep, you don't use to breathe or even snore small to show that you are alive?"

    My wife looked at me.

"Sorry... Sorry, I woke you up. Oya sleep. You know I am not used to all these marriage life things. I thought you had died o. You should be moving your body once in a while to give me sign. Do hmmm, turn your hand waa and hit me small or even mess once a while to give me alert. Not that you will lie down fiaaammm in one structure till daybreak."

"So I should be messing for you?"

"God forbid. I say give me small sign. It is mess you hear..
