JUST IN: Presidency replies Obasanjo, says ex-president is master of mischief & corruption

The presidency has responded to the criticisms of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who stated that Nigeria is a failed state due to the maladministration of President Bola Tinubu.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says Nigeria must appoint new, credible leaders for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC with short tenure to prevent corruption and re-establish trust.

The former President spoke during the Chinua Achebe leadership forum held at Yale University, USA.

In his keynote address at the forum titled ‘Leadership failure and state capture in Nigeria,’ he said INEC officials need thorough vetting to prevent partisan appointments. He also said that there should be an implementation of clearly defined financial regulations for political campaigns to ensure transparency and accountability

Obasanjo had also described Tinubu as ‘baba-go-slow’ while delivering a speech in faraway United States of America.

Responding to the comments, Special Adviser, Public Communication and Orientation to President Tinubu, Sunday Dare, stated that Obasanjo has no right to criticise his boss.

He wrote on X: “His journey along the path of hallucinations has never been in doubt. So is his descent into muddling facts, forgetting that he ran a Presidency on record as the most corrupt. His recent diatribe at Yale University lacks sincerity.

It is actually laughable that the former President’s pretentiousness about fighting corruption is not cutting any ice in the eyes of the general public.

We all know what happened under his watch and how, up till the present moment, there has been no explanation as to how he wasted a whopping $16bn in generating megawatts of darkness across the nation.

But that is not even the issue. Democracy suffered mortal wounds under his watch only capped by his murderous rage for an ill-fated 3rd term.
