Arewa Renaissance Group Petitions CJN Over MC Oluomo’s Defiance of Court Ruling

The Arewa Renaissance Group has raised concerns over what they describe as a violation of Nigeria’s judicial authority. In a petition to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), the group expressed outrage over the recent election of Musiliu “MC” Oluomo as President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The group argues that this election directly undermines court rulings, posing a serious threat to the integrity of the country’s judicial system.

This issue arose after the Appeal Court upheld a decision from the Industrial Court of Nigeria that recognized Prince Ibikunle as the rightful president of the NURTW. Despite this clear judicial directive, Oluomo’s supporters held an election in Abuja where he was controversially declared the new president

Haliru Nadabo, head of investigation for the Arewa Renaissance Group, issued a statement calling the election an “affront to the judiciary.” The group warns that ignoring this defiance could weaken respect for the courts, emphasizing that Nigeria’s legal structure relies on the adherence to and respect for judicial decisions.
