According to Nigerian Tribune, a commercial motorcyclist, Kazeem, was paraded by the Oyo State Police Command last Friday for allegedly raping a female passenger. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, the incident occurred on October 17.
The victim, who had just arrived in Ibadan from Lagos, boarded Kazeem's motorcycle at Olorunsogo area to be taken to Adeshina area.
However, Kazeem diverted to another route, claiming he needed to pick up something from his wife's shop.
Osifeso stated, "The suspect ended up taking her to Ogbere area where his wife's shop was located. She was forced inside where he had carnal knowledge of her without her consent."
During interrogation, Kazeem admitted to having a sexual relationship with the lady but claimed it was consensual. However, medical reports revealed bruises around the victim's private part.
Kazeem narrated his version of events, saying, "That night, I was on the expressway, waiting to pick passengers when the lady approached me and said she just arrived Ibadan from Lagos but didn't know the place she was going. I asked her for the area and she told me... As she sat on the bike, she told me she was hungry. I gave her money to buy food."
He continued, "Thereafter, she told me to help her get a place where she could stay overnight because it was already late... From there, I took her to my wife's shop at Olorunsogo area and slept with her."
When questioned about his wife's reaction, Kazeem said, "When my wife came after I was arrested, she couldn't say anything. She was just crying."
The police recovered exhibits, including a female underwear, multi-color boxer, and red pair of trousers.
This incident highlights concerns about safety and security, particularly for women, in public transportation. The case is currently under investigation.
