Democrats did something!!!

Yesterday was thrilling. I don’t just mean this in a too-online, coconut-pilled, “brat”-memed, collective-internet-hysteria way (though I’m also guilty of this. Please don’t look at my Twitter DMs).

I mean it’s actually been civically thrilling. An idea, that for weeks felt like whispering into the wind, has actually come true: An unexpected coalition of voters, party leaders, elected officials, public opinion, and mega-donors have successfully persuaded President Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race. Despite all odds — and truly, there were so many — the Democrats responded to the people! The system has worked as intended!

But so does belonging. For each of us in this particular slice of life, we are sharing the experience of living into unanswerable questions. With that, we have an opportunity to gather more anecdotes and models for making choices: around love, belonging, community, neighborliness, civic engagement, social wellbeing, global flourishing.

While we’re in this wild, historic moment of flux, it feels important to emphasize that this game is not just a gamble for who can win in November. This moment signifies something much deeper — a critical effort to revitalize American democracy. For the first time in many years, a key constituency of Americans are hopeful.

Our appetite for togetherness doesn’t just play in the realms of romantic partner, family unit, or friend. Our models for relationships and life shouldn’t, either. The Mature Adult today wants belonging at all reaches of creativity, and all depths of the soul. Even when we can’t always find it. Even if it’s not always right here, with us, in our space, all the time.

God's extraordinary wo rk is most often done by ordinary people in the seeming obscurity of a home and family.

I'm not a big fan of inspiration. I'm too old to sit and wait for the muse to give me a little kiss... I write a lot, and I'm not afraid to make mistakes or to write badly. I can alsways fix something weak and dull. But I can't fix a blank page.

If someone tells you you're not beautiful, turn around and walk away so they canhave a great view of your fabulous ass.

As long as you do things for God, you are a Hall of Famer in heaven's list.
